{"id":1133,"date":"2013-08-15T09:29:31","date_gmt":"2013-08-15T13:29:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedurstfirm.com\/?p=1133"},"modified":"2013-08-13T09:31:18","modified_gmt":"2013-08-13T13:31:18","slug":"court-strives-to-bring-clarity-to-nj-alimony-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thedurstfirm.com\/?p=1133","title":{"rendered":"Court strives to bring clarity to NJ alimony law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NJ has 4 types of alimony: permanent, limited duration, rehabilitative, and reimbursement.\u00a0 The body of case law and the NJ alimony statute have served litigants, attorneys and judges well in crafting equitable resolutions to alimony disputes.\u00a0 However, there are some gray areas in the law.\u00a0 One of those gray areas concerns how long a marriage must be in order to be considered &#8220;long term&#8221;.\u00a0 This is an important threshold because permanent alimony is appropriate in a long term marriage. A short term marriage is a candidate for limited duration alimony.\u00a0 In the case referenced below, the Appellate Division has held that a 15 year marriage cannot be considered a short term marriage.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>FAMILY LAW<\/strong> 20-2-0941 <em>Gnall v. Gnall<\/em>, App. Div. (Lihotz, J.A.D.)
